About Moonstruck - Hosta

Moonstruck is a deciduous hosta grown chiefly for its variegated foliage, with yellow-cream centers edged in green that mature toward white. Lavender-purple flowers rise above the leaves in summer, adding a secondary display that draws bees and hummingbirds. ## Foliage and form Use it as a low, mounding clump in a shaded border, beneath trees, or in containers. The pale centers brighten shady spaces, while the broad leaves make a useful foliage ground cover. Published dimensions place the plant at 8–12 inches high and 12–24 inches wide ([Phoenix Perennials](https://www.phoenixperennials.com/product/hosta-moonstruck-plantain-lily-asparagaceae-the-asparagus-family/)). ## Growing conditions Plant in full to part shade in fertile, moisture-retentive soil with good drainage. Water during dry weather and mulch lightly to help keep the root zone evenly moist. Hosta is a genus of shade-loving perennials in the asparagus family, and this cultivar suits containers, borders, and understory planting ([NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/hosta/); [Iowa State Extension](https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/how-to/all-about-hostas)). ## Maintenance Remove damaged foliage and spent flower stems as needed. Divide an established clump in spring or early fall if it becomes crowded, replanting divisions at the same depth. Allow foliage to die back naturally at the end of the season ([RHS](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/196833/hosta-moonstruck-v/details); [Iowa State Extension](https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/how-to/all-about-hostas)).
