Orange Star is a medium, neat hosta clump with orange foliage edged in dark blue-green; upright stems carry lavender-purple flowers in summer. The strong leaf contrast brings color to shaded beds and patio plantings. [RHS](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/332903/hosta-orange-star-v/details)
## Growing conditions
Give it partial to full shade and moist, fertile soil that drains freely. Hostas generally do well in morning sun or dappled shade with organic matter in the soil; avoid waterlogging, particularly during winter dormancy. [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/hosta/)
## Seasonal display
The foliage is the main feature, with summer flowers held above the mound. RHS lists a broad mature range of 0.1–0.5 m high and 0.5–1 m wide, so allow the clump room to develop rather than treating a single size as guaranteed. [RHS](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/332903/hosta-orange-star-v/details)
## Maintenance
Keep the root zone evenly moist during dry weather, then reduce watering when growth dies back. Remove old leaves after frost and divide crowded clumps in early spring or late summer. Do not leave the plant in soggy soil through winter. [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/hosta/)
