About Orion's Belt - Hosta

Hosta ‘Orion’s Belt’ is a deciduous, clump-forming hosta with rounded blue-green leaves edged broadly in white; new margins may show creamy yellow briefly in spring. Lavender flowers rise above the foliage in summer, and this cultivar suits shaded borders and large containers. RHS lists a mature size range of 4–20 in tall and 1.6–3.3 ft wide, while MyHostas records about 18 in tall by 3.4 ft wide; allow generous room because estimates vary with site and growing conditions. [RHS](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/281965/hosta-orions-belt-v/details), [MyHostas](https://myhostas.be/db/view/Orion%27s%2BBelt). Plant in partial to full shade, with gentle morning light where available. Use fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil; water during dry periods and mulch to conserve moisture. Keep the soil evenly moist during active growth, while avoiding waterlogged ground. Divide crowded clumps in spring or fall. Remove spent flower stems after bloom and clear dead foliage in late autumn. Hostas are deciduous perennials, so the leaves die back seasonally. General hosta growing guidance is available from [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/hosta/). ## Maintenance Water during dry spells, remove spent flower stems, and cut back dead leaves after frost.
