About Pandora's Box - Hosta

Pandora's Box is a miniature, clump-forming hosta with rounded leaves, deep blue-green margins, white centers, and pale lavender flowers in early summer. Its small scale works well at an edge or in a rock garden, while a trough or container brings the patterned leaves close to view. ## Foliage and siting Set the plant in part shade or full shade; gentle morning sun can help show leaf color, while hot afternoon sun may scorch hosta foliage. The short leaves stay near the ground, with taller flower scapes rising above them in early summer. Use it along a shaded walk or at the front of a woodland planting. ## Soil and water Grow in fertile, organic-rich soil that remains evenly moist but drains well. A well-drained container mix also suits this miniature cultivar. Avoid waterlogged winter soil and shelter plants from cold, drying winds. Hosta foliage dies back in cold weather, then returns from the crown in spring. ## Maintenance Watch for slug or snail damage and protect the tender leaves where deer browse. Divide established clumps in early spring when they become crowded; NC State Extension gives a general hosta division interval of three to five years.
