About Paul's Glory - Hosta

Hosta 'Paul's Glory' is a clump-forming perennial selected for heart-shaped leaves with bright yellow to creamy-white centers and broad blue-green margins. The American Hosta Society records it as a 1987 sport of 'Perry's True Blue', introduced by Paul Ruh and Paul Hofer; pale lavender flowers appear in summer. ### Foliage and flowers The [American Hosta Society registry](https://hostaregistrar.org/search_item/4254) records a mature plant about 17 inches high and 26 inches in diameter, with lavender flowers from late June into July in Ohio. The [Royal Horticultural Society profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/66046/hosta-pauls-glory-v/details) describes the leaves as variegated, with yellow to creamy-white centers and wide blue-green margins, and gives a broader 0.5 to 1 metre range for height and spread. Leaf color and final size vary with growing conditions. ### Siting Grow in moist, well-drained soil in partial shade. Gold and variegated hostas retain better foliage quality with protection from harsh afternoon sun; Iowa State Extension's [hosta growing guide](https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/how-to/all-about-hostas) also recommends regular moisture and notes that dry sites can scorch leaves. Use the plant as a foliage accent in a shade border or woodland planting. ## Maintenance Keep soil evenly moist while the plant establishes and during dry weather. Remove spent flower stalks if a tidier appearance is desired. In spring, divide an established clump if more plants are wanted or if its center becomes crowded; divisions preserve the cultivar's foliage pattern.
