About Queen of the Seas - Hosta

Hosta ‘Queen of the Seas’ forms a wide clump of rippled blue-green leaves that deepen toward green as summer progresses. Upright summer scapes carry pale flowers described in cultivar listings from lavender to near-white. Published size estimates differ: RHS gives 4–20 in tall and 1.6–3.3 ft wide, while two hosta growers list about 2 ft tall by 4 ft wide; allow room for a broad mature clump. Site this hosta in partial to full shade, including gentle morning light where available. Use fertile, moisture-retentive, well-drained soil; water during dry spells and avoid soggy winter conditions. Mulch to conserve moisture. Divide crowded clumps in early spring or late summer. The foliage dies back as temperatures drop, and spent flower stems can be removed after bloom. General hosta guidance from [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/hosta/) covers shade, soil, watering, and division. ## Maintenance Water during dry spells, remove spent scapes, and clear dead foliage after it dies back naturally.
