About Restless Sea - Hosta

Hosta ‘Restless Sea’ is a small, clump-forming perennial with grey-green, narrowly ovate leaves whose edges wave strongly and tips twist. Very pale purple, bell-shaped flowers appear in late summer. The [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/270308/hosta-restless-sea/details) reports mature ranges of 0.1–0.5 metres high and 0.5–1 metre wide, with a moist but well-drained soil preference. ## Garden Use The rippled leaves give this selection a lively texture along a shaded path, in a woodland border, or at the front of a larger hosta planting. Its modest clump can also suit a wide container where the foliage can be seen from above. The pale summer flowers sit above the leaves without obscuring their form. ## Growing Conditions Plant in shade or partial shade and keep the soil evenly moist while ensuring excess water can drain away. Hostas grow best in fertile, humus-rich soil; a spring mulch helps retain moisture and protects the root zone. Avoid a hot, exposed site that dries quickly. ## Maintenance Remove collapsed foliage after it dies back and divide the clump in early spring or late summer when more plants are wanted. Check the waved leaves for slug and snail feeding, especially during wet weather. The [RHS cultivar entry](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/270308/hosta-restless-sea/details) provides the selection’s size and moisture guidance.
