Hosta 'Sagae' is a large, deciduous hosta valued for broad, wavy blue-green leaves edged in creamy yellow. Pale lavender flowers rise above the foliage in summer, bringing a soft floral accent to shaded borders and containers.
### Foliage and flowers
The RHS describes leaves about 8–12 inches long and flowering stems reaching about 5 feet. Its mature size estimate is 3.3–4.9 feet tall by 1.6–3.3 feet wide, while MyHostas lists about 31 inches tall by 5.9 feet wide; these are separate estimates and can vary with growing conditions. Chicago Botanic Garden places flowering in July and August.
### Growing conditions
Choose partial shade or dappled light and fertile, moisture-retentive soil that drains well. Keep soil evenly moist during active growth while avoiding waterlogged winter conditions. Hosta foliage dies back in winter, then returns in spring. The RHS and NC State Extension provide broader hosta siting and care guidance.
## Maintenance
Divide established clumps every 3–5 years when needed to manage their spread or rejuvenate growth. Water during dry periods and clear dead foliage after frost.
