About Sugar Daddy - Hosta

Hosta 'Sugar Daddy' is a mound-forming sport of 'Big Daddy' with blue-green, corrugated leaves and a broad pale margin that ages from yellow toward cream. Its near-white flowers appear in early summer, while the heavy foliage gives shaded borders a bold, layered texture. ## Form and season The [American Hosta Society registrar](https://www.hostaregistrar.org/Docs/hosta_1729590441hosta_2003.pdf) describes a mature clump about 19 inches tall and 40 inches across, with a mound-like habit and flowers from June into early July. The [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/237414/hosta-sugar-daddy/details) likewise describes a deciduous clump with thick leaves and near-white summer flowers. Allow the plant room to reach its mature spread. ## Siting Grow in fertile, well-drained soil with steady moisture. Part shade or full shade suits hostas and helps preserve the cool blue leaf surface; water through dry spells. Thick leaves may resist some slug feeding, but inspect new growth. ## Maintenance Remove old leaves after dormancy and clear spent flower stems if a tidy appearance matters. Divide established clumps only for propagation or if crowding becomes a concern.
