Sun Mouse - Hosta

Hosta 'Sun Mouse' is a compact miniature hosta with bright golden foliage that holds its color into summer. Lavender flowers rise above a low mound, making this selection useful at the front of a shaded bed, along an edge, or in a container. ## Size and color [Walters Gardens](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HSSMO) lists it at 6 inches tall by 12 inches wide, with 18-inch scapes, and rates it for USDA zones 3–9. The [U.S. plant patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP30033P3/en) describes a compact mound about 15 by 30 cm with golden leaves and lavender flowers beginning in early June; it identifies the selection as Hosta hybrid 'Sun Mouse' (PP30033). ## Placement Part shade to full shade provides reliable leaf color. The patent notes light shade and enough moisture, with some direct sun possible in cooler conditions when water is adequate. Use well-drained soil and water regularly in prolonged heat. Walters Gardens also recommends morning sun or filtered light to maintain the golden foliage. ## Maintenance Remove flower stems after bloom if desired. Clear old leaves after dormancy and keep roots evenly moist through dry periods.
