About Tokudama Flavocircinalis - Hosta

Hosta tokudama f. flavocircinalis is a slow-growing, deciduous clump with thick, puckered blue-green leaves edged in creamy yellow. In summer, upright stems carry bell-shaped white flowers tinted pale purple; the Royal Horticultural Society lists a mature height of 0.1–0.5 m and spread of 0.5–1 m. [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/42597/hosta-tokudama-f-flavocircinalis-v/details) ## Foliage and placement The puckered leaves give this hosta a distinctive, tactile surface. Use it in a shaded border, as a small ground-covering clump, or in a container where the variegated foliage can be appreciated at close range. ## Growing conditions Provide full or partial shade and sheltered conditions. The RHS lists chalk, clay, loam, and sand, with moist but well-drained soil. Grow in fertile ground that does not dry out, mulch in spring, and water established plants during dry spells. ## Seasonal care The foliage is deciduous and dies back after the growing season. Summer flower stems rise above the mound. Watch for slugs and snails; container-grown plants may also be affected by vine weevil, and hostas can be susceptible to virus disease. Divide in spring or late summer when needed. ## Maintenance No routine pruning is required. Remove dead foliage after it has died back and keep the soil evenly moist through dry weather.
