About Albo Marginata - Hosta

Albo Marginata is a deciduous, clump-forming hosta whose green, wavy leaves are edged in creamy white. Lavender, bell-shaped flowers rise above the foliage in late summer; the bright margins create a ribbon of light along shaded paths and mixed perennial beds. [Gurney’s cultivar listing](https://www.gurneys.com/products/albo-marginata-hosta) gives an 18–24-inch height and 24–36-inch spacing, while [Colorado State PlantTalk](https://planttalk.colostate.edu/topics/annuals-perennials/1033-hosta/) places Albo Marginata at 12–18 inches tall. ## Planting and display Use it at the front of a woodland border, beside a walkway, or in a group where the foliage can spread without crowding smaller plants. Partial to full shade protects the variegated leaves from scorching. Hostas grow best in moist, well-drained soil with organic matter; mulch helps hold moisture. The plant dies back in winter and returns from its crown in spring. ## Maintenance Keep the root zone evenly moist during dry spells, especially beneath trees where roots compete for water. Watch for slug and snail feeding on the broad leaves and remove spent flower scapes after bloom. Divide an overgrown clump in spring, or leave a healthy mound undisturbed. [Iowa State Extension](https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/how-to/all-about-hostas) and [UGA Extension](https://fieldreport.caes.uga.edu/publications/C955/growing-hostas/) cover hosta soil, watering, and common pests.
