Create design onlineAbout Victory - Hosta
Victory is an upright, giant hosta with glossy green, heart-shaped leaves and a broad margin that shifts from greenish yellow to creamy white by early summer. Near-white flowers rise on tall scapes in midsummer. The [American Hosta Society’s cultivar profile](https://americanhostasociety.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Hosta-of-the-Year-booklet-3rd-Ed.pdf) gives a mature foliage mound around 30 inches tall and 70 inches wide and lists Victory as the 2015 AHGA Hosta of the Year; [Iowa State Extension](https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/how-to/hosta-types-and-cultivars-iowa) independently describes its shiny green leaves and creamy-yellow margins.
## Planting and display
Give the mature clump room as a specimen in a large shade border; its broad leaves make a strong backdrop for finer textures. Grow it in partial shade and moist, well-drained soil. In hot regions, dappled or full shade helps protect the foliage; mulch and steady moisture are useful where roots compete with trees.
## Seasonal interest
New leaves emerge in spring, the glossy mound carries the garden through summer, and flower scapes add a white accent at midseason. This deciduous perennial retreats after frost.
## Maintenance
Water during dry spells, especially in summer. Monitor for slugs and snails and remove spent scapes to keep the plant tidy. Leave an established clump in place unless division or a change in spacing is needed; divide in early spring when new leaves begin to emerge. [UGA Extension](https://fieldreport.caes.uga.edu/publications/C955/growing-hostas/) describes hosta planting, division, irrigation, and common pests.
