Create design onlineAbout Wiggles and Squiggles - Hosta
Hosta 'Wiggles and Squiggles' is a compact hosta with long, narrow, bright yellow leaves whose deeply wavy margins give the low mound a distinctive outline. Lavender flowers rise on tall scapes in midsummer, and the foliage brings strong color to small shaded spaces.
## Garden Use
Place this small selection near the front of a woodland border, along an edge, or in a container where its rippled leaves can be seen close up. Walters Gardens lists foliage about 8–10 inches tall and a spread near 24 inches, with flower scapes 18–24 inches high; its profile gives USDA Zones 3–9. More shade shifts the leaves toward chartreuse, while morning sun and afternoon shade maintain brighter yellow tones. See the [Walters Gardens 'Wiggles and Squiggles' profile](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HSWSQ) for cultivar-specific details.
## Growing Conditions
Grow in part to full shade and keep the soil evenly moist, rich in organic matter, and well drained. Avoid harsh afternoon sun and winter-wet soil. The [North Carolina Extension Hosta guide](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/hosta/) covers general hosta care and seasonal growth.
## Maintenance
Remove foliage after it has died back and the plant is dormant. Divide established clumps every few years as they expand, and check new leaves for slug damage. North Carolina Extension notes that all parts of hosta are toxic to cats, dogs, and horses.
