Hosta × 'Stained Glass' is a gold-centered sport of 'Guacamole', edged in dark green with prominent veining. Its fragrant pale-lavender flowers rise above a bright, substantial clump in late summer, adding light and texture to shaded beds.
## Form and season
The [American Hosta Society registrar](https://hostaregistrar.org/search_item/5350) records it as a 1999 sport of 'Guacamole'. [Walters Gardens](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HSSTG) describes gold leaves with dark-green margins and pale-lavender flowers on 30-inch scapes. [Monrovia](https://www.monrovia.com/stained-glass-hosta.html) gives a mature foliage height near 15 inches and spread of 36–48 inches; the registrar lists a more compact 32-inch diameter. Allow space for the broader mature clump.
## Placement
Part shade to full shade is reliable. Monrovia also lists filtered sun, and Walters Gardens notes greater sun tolerance than many hostas. Use fertile, well-drained soil and keep moisture steady in warm or dry weather. This wide, variegated mound works well in a shaded border or as ground cover where its leaves have room to show.
## Maintenance
Water during dry stretches. Remove old foliage after it dies back so spring growth is unobstructed, and trim spent flower stalks if a tidier finish is preferred.
