Bombshell is a dwarf panicle hydrangea with compact flower clusters that open white and mature through pale to rosy pink. The Royal Horticultural Society gives a mature height and spread range of 1–1.5 metres, and lists flowers from midsummer into fall.
## Flowers and placement
The exact selection is Hydrangea paniculata ‘Bombshell’; its U.S. plant patent is PP21,008, granted in 2010. The RHS profile describes a compact shrub with white flowers that take on pink tones and lists it for borders and cut flowers. Its stated mature size range converts to about 3.3–4.9 feet in both dimensions; allow room for the full range rather than sizing it from a single point. See the [RHS plant profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/305850/hydrangea-paniculata-bombshell/details) and the [U.S. patent record](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP21008P2/en).
## Growing conditions
Grow in full sun or partial shade with moist, well-drained soil. As a panicle hydrangea, it flowers on new wood; species-level guidance from [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/hydrangea-paniculata/) supports spring pruning and a site that receives sun without prolonged root-zone drying.
## Maintenance
Water while establishing and during extended dry periods. Prune in late winter or early spring to remove weak stems and maintain the desired outline.
