Moonrock® is a compact panicle hydrangea, Hydrangea paniculata ‘Kolmakilima’, with showy flower clusters. Creamy blooms open around lime-green centers in early summer and continue into fall, with later flowers able to blush pink.
## Form and Flower
Bloomin’ Easy lists a mature size of 4–6 feet tall and wide and full-to-part sun exposure. The breeder identifies the selection as ‘Kolmakilima’ (USPP29853, CPBR5853); these dimensions distinguish Moonrock from the larger panicle hydrangea species and other cultivars. SiteOne describes a mounding, upright form with blooms that age from creamy white to pink. Its scale and long summer-to-fall panicles suit a border, foundation planting or small hedge. ## Siting
Give it full sun or part shade and soil that drains well while holding steady moisture. Panicle hydrangea tolerates sun better than some hydrangeas; morning sun with afternoon shade is useful in hotter sites. North Carolina State notes that the species has shallow roots and benefits from mulch. [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/hydrangea-paniculata/)
## Maintenance
Panicle hydrangea flowers on new growth and can be pruned in late winter or spring. If you enjoy dry flowerheads for winter interest, wait until late winter to cut them back. Maintain moist but well-drained soil and refresh mulch over the shallow root zone.
