About Pink Diamond Panicle Hydrangea

Pink Diamond is a deciduous panicle hydrangea with upright, rounded branching and large conical flowerheads that open white and mature to rich pink. New florets continue opening as older ones deepen in color, so the late-summer and fall display can show several tones at once. [Oregon State University](https://landscapeplants.oregonstate.edu/plants/hydrangea-paniculata-pink-diamond) and the [Chicago Botanic Garden](https://www.chicagobotanic.org/plant-information/plant-finder/hydrangea-paniculata-interhydia-panicle-hydrangea) describe the Pink Diamond selection. ## Seasonal character The showy sterile florets sit among smaller fertile flowers in dense panicles. Pink Diamond blooms on new wood, and the flower color is not changed by soil acidity. Mature-size estimates vary: Oregon State lists about 5–10 feet high and similarly wide, while Chicago Botanic Garden lists 8–15 feet; leave generous space rather than planting it in a narrow gap. Some references index Pink Diamond under the synonym ‘Interhydia’ ([RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/139945/hydrangea-paniculata-interhydia/details)). ## Siting Give it sun to part shade and rich, moist, well-drained soil. The Chicago Botanic Garden reports USDA zones 3–8; its full-sun to light-shade listing is consistent with Oregon State’s sun-to-part-shade guidance. ## Maintenance Panicle hydrangeas flower on the current season’s growth, so late-winter or spring pruning can shape the shrub without removing the coming season’s flower buds. Their shallow roots benefit from mulch; use a moderate layer and keep the planting area evenly moist while the shrub establishes. [NC State Extension’s species guide](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/hydrangea-paniculata/) covers these general panicle-hydrangea care practices.
