About Renba Berry White® Panicle Hydrangea

Berry White® is the First Editions® panicle hydrangea ‘Renba’, a deciduous shrub with strong upright stems and large conical panicles. Flowers open white in July and develop dark pink upward from the base, bringing a changing summer display to a flowering hedge, privacy planting, or cutting garden. The breeder lists the selection as ‘Renba’ PP28,509. ([First Editions® profile](https://firsteditionsplants.com/product/berry-white-panicle-hydrangea/)) ## Seasonal color and placement The breeder gives a mature size of about 6–7 feet tall by 4–5 feet wide, with full sun to part shade and USDA zones 3–8. Cooler fall evenings can intensify the pink tones, while the exact shade varies with climate and site. The panicles are suitable for cutting, and the upright habit helps create a defined screen or hedge. ## Siting Panicle hydrangeas tolerate more sun than many other hydrangeas, though morning sun with afternoon shade is a useful choice in hotter locations. Provide well-drained soil; NC State Extension notes a preference for neutral to acidic conditions and recommends mulch for the species’ shallow roots. ([NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/hydrangea-paniculata/)) ## Maintenance This cultivar blooms on the current season’s growth. Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the shrub and remove weak growth, then allow new shoots to develop. The named cultivar is protected by USPP 28,509, published October 10, 2017 ([patent record](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP28509P2/en)); this records the patent number and date without making a claim about current legal status.
