## Landscape value
'Black Jack' is an upright stonecrop with dark purple foliage and clusters of pink flowers in late summer and fall. Use it as an accent in a sunny perennial border or rock garden where the dark foliage contrasts with lighter plants. Flowers attract bees and butterflies.
## Growing conditions and size
Grow in full sun and well-drained soil. Water during establishment and avoid persistently wet sites. [Missouri Botanical Garden](https://plantfinder.mobot.org/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?kempercode=c395) describes a mature mound approximately 30 inches tall and 36 inches wide. Size varies with growing conditions.
## Maintenance and source notes
Remove dead stems and accumulated dry material as needed, especially around buildings. Idaho's [BLM database](https://www.blm.gov/sites/default/files/documents/files/Fire%20Resistance%20of%20Plants%20Master%20Database.pdf) lists *Sedum telephium* 'Black Jack' with fire resistance score 10; apply the source's site and maintenance guidance. Botanical sources use differing species assignments for this cultivar, also called 'Dark Jack'; its cultivar identity is the basis for this record.
