About October Stonecrop

## Landscape value October stonecrop (*Hylotelephium sieboldii*, also known as *Sedum sieboldii*) is a low succulent perennial with rounded blue-green leaves on arching stems and clusters of pink flowers in late summer and fall. It works in a rock garden, container, or sunny border edge where its trailing habit is visible. ## Growing conditions and care Grow in full sun to partial shade and sharply drained soil. Protect against prolonged winter wet; water during establishment and adjust to soil and weather. The [North Carolina Extension profile](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/hylotelephium-sieboldii/common-name/october-stonecrop/) describes its light and drainage requirements. Keep competing plants and accumulated dead material from smothering the crown. ## Firewise source Idaho's [BLM master database](https://www.blm.gov/sites/default/files/documents/files/Fire%20Resistance%20of%20Plants%20Master%20Database.pdf) lists *Sedum sieboldii* with fire resistance score 10. Follow local defensible-space recommendations and maintain the planting; a source rating does not remove the need for appropriate siting and upkeep.
