Red Star is the 'Kolmarest' cultivar of hybrid *Hypericum × inodorum*. Yellow spring flowers are followed by glossy, apple-red fruits from late summer into fall, and the compact 30–36-inch shrub fits a foundation or border planting. [Plants Nouveau](https://www.plantsnouveau.com/plants/shrubs/hypericum-red-star) gives zones 6–9, full sun to part shade, average garden soil and moist, well-drained conditions; [USPP21313P2](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP21313P2/en) documents the cultivar and was issued September 21, 2010.
## Seasonal display
Use Red Star for both the garden and cut stems: the red fruits are its main late-season feature, while its spring flowers are yellow. The upright, spreading shrub is listed for foundations, cutting and wildlife gardens, borders, small urban gardens and containers; Plants Nouveau also reports rust resistance.
## Maintenance
Water to keep soil moist but well drained. Prune in early spring to encourage a full plant and a good flower and fruit display. The cited mature size is 30–36 inches high and wide; leave similar room around it to preserve its natural habit.
