**Splash Select™ Rose** is PanAmerican Seed’s rose-splash selection in the Splash Select series of polka-dot plant, *Hypoestes phyllostachya* (PAS2342). Its mounded, spreading foliage brings contrasting color to partially shaded annual borders and mixed containers, with indoor culture also listed by the breeder ([PanAmerican Seed](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/034202477004669/hypoestes-splash-select-rose/)).
## Foliage and placement
This selection is grown for leaves rather than a showy flower display. Its green foliage is marked with rose-colored blotches; [University of Wisconsin Extension](https://hort.extension.wisc.edu/articles/polka-dot-plant-hypoestes-phyllostachya/) describes the Splash series as carrying large contrasting blotches in rose, red, pink, or white. PanAmerican separates nursery-pot size from landscape size: the potted crop is 4–6 inches tall, while garden plants reach 10–18 inches; width is 12–14 inches. Use the garden range when spacing it in a bed, and allow 12–16 inches between plants.
## Light and water
Bright filtered light or partial sun preserves leaf color; Wisconsin Extension notes that low light can fade the markings and encourage leggy stems. In cold-winter regions, grow it outdoors as a warm-season annual or move a container indoors before cold weather; [Illinois Extension](https://extension.illinois.edu/flowers/hypoestes) lists Hypoestes as a tender annual. Use porous, organic-rich potting mix and water well during active growth, allowing the surface to dry slightly between waterings.
## Maintenance
Pinch the shoot tips as stems lengthen to retain a compact mound. Avoid waterlogged mix and watch for root rot, powdery mildew, whiteflies, aphids, and mealybugs, which Wisconsin Extension notes can affect the species.
