Create design onlineAbout Gibraltar Candytuft
Gibraltar candytuft is an evergreen, half-woody Iberis with narrow leaves and a low, flat-topped outline. Dense, flat flower clusters range from white to reddish lilac; mature plants can reach about 12 inches tall and spread farther in favorable sites. ## Identity
Kew accepts *Iberis gibraltarica* L. and records its native range as Gibraltar and Morocco; garden references also describe it in southern Spain. The common name can be applied to other candytufts, so check the botanical name when species identity matters. ## Placement and bloom
Provide full sun and light soil mixed with stones or grit. The species grows in cliff crevices and suits sunny rock gardens or a protected stone wall. It flowers from May through July. Older species accounts report a spread of 2–3 feet in favorable sites, so allow room beyond a small nursery clump. ## Maintenance
Keep the planting area open and sharply drained. In colder parts of its garden range, the species survives only mild or moderately severe winters; choose a sheltered sunny site where winter cold is a concern.
