About Robin™ Red Holly Tree

Robin™ Red Holly is the female hybrid holly cultivar ‘Conin’, sold in tree form. Its dense, upright evergreen crown pairs maroon-red new growth with mature dark-green foliage, followed by orange-red fruit that can persist into winter and may attract birds. See Monrovia’s [selection profile](https://www.monrovia.com/robin-red-holly.html) and the original [USPP9486P patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP9486P/en). ## Landscape Use Give this broad, tall selection room to develop as a hedge, screen, mass planting, or specimen. The patent describes a mature size of 15–20 ft tall by 12–15 ft wide; [New Life Nursery](https://www.newlifenursery1.net/products/robin-red-holly-tree) lists full sun to partial shade and USDA Zones 6–9. ## Seasonal Interest The spring flush adds color before darkening to green. Orange-red fruit brightens fall and can persist into winter; flowers are inconspicuous, so foliage and berries provide the main ornamental display. ## Site and Soil Grow in full sun or partial shade in organically rich, slightly acidic, moist, well-drained soil. Avoid heavy, wet sites. Water deeply and regularly during the first growing season, then maintain even moisture according to weather and soil drainage. ## Maintenance Monrovia recommends annual pruning to shape. The patent also describes this cultivar as responding well to pruning; shape as needed to preserve its dense, upright tree form.
