The page gives a spreading habit, 10–12-inch height, 14–16-inch width, full shade to part shade exposure, and flowering from mid-spring into summer. ## Garden use Syngenta describes Athena™ as an F1 series with semi-double blooms over gracefully spreading plants, and says these make beautiful hanging baskets. Its product page lists container formats from packs through large pots, and includes Mix among the available selections. North Carolina State Extension also lists I. walleriana for containers, hanging baskets, and mass plantings in shade. ## Growing conditions The [NC State Plant Toolbox](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/impatiens-walleriana/) recommends part shade to full shade and moist, well-drained soil with organic material. Plants may wilt in hot, dry spells and need extra water, while overwatering can cause rot. This species is often grown as an annual outside tropical zones. ## Maintenance Keep soil consistently moist without leaving it waterlogged, and check containers often during hot, dry weather. If plants become leggy in late summer, NC State recommends trimming the top third to encourage new blooms and improve appearance. Leave room for the spreading growth and allow its flowers to hang freely in baskets.
