Beacon® Cape Pine Mixture pairs bright red and white Impatiens walleriana for shade gardens and containers. The [PanAmerican Seed profile](https://www.panamseed.com/products/034701686052500/impatiens-beacon-cape-pine-mixture/) identifies the whole mixture as mounded and upright, with spring through late summer flowering and a mature size of 14–18 inches tall by 12–14 inches wide.
## Flowers and placement
The mixture includes Bright Red and White selections. PanAmerican lists uses in packs, pots, hanging baskets, and in-ground beds, with shade and partial-sun exposure.
## Growing conditions
Choose shade or partial sun and keep the soil evenly moist and well drained. [Iowa State University Extension](https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/how-to/growing-impatiens-home-garden) recommends partial shade and moist, well-drained soil for garden impatiens, describes glossy medium-green foliage, and advises frequent checks for container plants in warm weather. [PanAmerican Seed notes](https://www.panamseed.com/products/034701686052500/impatiens-beacon-cape-pine-mixture/) that Beacon offers high resistance to widely prevalent impatiens downy mildew populations but is not immune. [Wisconsin Horticulture Extension recommends](https://hort.extension.wisc.edu/articles/impatiens-downy-mildew/) spacing for airflow and avoiding overhead watering to reduce disease-favorable conditions.
## Maintenance
Check container moisture often during hot weather and water at the soil surface when needed. Adjust bed watering to rainfall and temperature, and avoid leaving roots in waterlogged soil. If downy mildew appears, remove affected plants promptly and do not compost them.
