Beacon® Chicago Mixture is a Beacon impatiens mix introduced for spring 2025 displays. The breeder describes the original blend as Violet Shades and White, with Blue Pearl noted then as a future introduction; the 2025 new-varieties catalog lists Chicago Mixture under Beacon annuals ([Beacon announcement](https://www.beaconimpatiens.com/Blog/2025/01/06/new-colors-for-2025-sneak-peek.html); [2025 catalog](https://catalog.panamseed.com/view/811944704/13/)).
## Placement and bloom
As *Impatiens walleriana*, it suits shade gardens, containers and borders. Species guidance places its bloom from late spring until first frost and recommends part to full shade; some sun can work with adequate moisture, while excessive sun can scorch foliage. Grow in moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter ([NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/impatiens-walleriana/)).
## Disease note
PanAmerican describes high resistance to widely prevalent impatiens downy mildew populations for the Beacon series, while also stating it is not immune. Disease can still occur, so avoid treating resistance as complete protection ([PanAmerican Seed](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/034701686057401/impatiens-beacon-chicago-mixture-improved/); [Wisconsin Horticulture](https://hort.extension.wisc.edu/articles/impatiens-downy-mildew/)).
## Maintenance
Keep the soil evenly moist, especially in hot, dry weather, while maintaining good drainage to prevent rot. Trim a leggy plant by about one-third in late summer. In cold climates, remove plants after frost or bring container-grown plants indoors ([NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/impatiens-walleriana/)).
