About Beacon® Formula Mixture Improved Impatiens

The current [PanAmerican Seed profile](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/034701686022849/beaconsupsup-formula-mixture-improved-impatiens/), marked as a 2027 new variety, identifies the whole Beacon® Formula Mixture Improved selection as Impatiens walleriana, code PAS1846583. Its current mixture list includes Orange Improved and Violet Improved alongside Bright Red, Coral, Lipstick, Rose, Salmon, and White; this is a changing multi-color mixture, not one uniform flower color. ## Flowers and placement The profile lists spring, late spring, summer, and late summer flowering, with a mounded and upright habit. Mature plants are listed at 14–18 inches tall and 12–14 inches wide, with shade or partial-sun exposure. PanAmerican lists use in packs, pots, hanging baskets, and in-ground beds. ## Growing conditions Choose shade or partial sun and keep the soil evenly moist and well drained. [Iowa State University Extension](https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/how-to/growing-impatiens-home-garden) describes glossy medium-green leaves and recommends partial shade and moist, well-drained soil for garden impatiens, with frequent checks for container plants in warm weather. PanAmerican reports high resistance to widely prevalent impatiens downy mildew populations but explicitly notes that Beacon is not immune. [Wisconsin Horticulture Extension](https://hort.extension.wisc.edu/articles/impatiens-downy-mildew/) recommends airflow spacing and avoiding overhead watering to reduce disease-favorable conditions. ## Maintenance Check container moisture often during hot weather and water at the soil surface when needed. Adjust bed watering to rainfall and temperature, and avoid leaving roots in waterlogged soil. If downy mildew appears, remove affected plants promptly and do not compost them.
