Beacon® Lipstick is PanAmerican Seed's Lipstick selection in the Beacon® series of garden impatiens. The breeder lists spring through late-summer flowering, a mounded, upright habit, and a compact 14–18 in. height by 12–14 in. width. It reports high resistance to widely prevalent populations of the impatiens downy mildew pathogen; that is a resistance claim, not immunity. ## Garden use and light
The breeder lists Beacon Lipstick for shade or partial sun, with an 8–10 in. spacing recommendation and use in packs, pots, hanging baskets, and in-ground beds. Iowa State Extension's general guidance for garden impatiens favors partial shade, such as filtered light or morning sun followed by afternoon shade. Heavy shade is possible, though it can produce taller plants and fewer flowers. ## Soil and disease
Grow in moist, well-drained soil. Impatiens downy mildew can spread by wind and splashing water; good air movement and regular inspection help identify problems early. The Wisconsin Horticulture program recommends prompt removal and disposal of infected plants rather than home composting. ## Maintenance
Keep the soil evenly moist but well drained. In beds, water during dry weather; check container and basket soil frequently in warm conditions and water when the surface begins to dry. Maintain the recommended spacing, inspect for yellowing or downy growth, and remove infected plants promptly without putting them in home compost.
