About Beacon® Pearl Island Mixture Impatiens

Beacon® Pearl Island Mixture is an Impatiens walleriana selection for shade and partial sun. PanAmerican Seed describes an upright, mounded plant with spring through late-summer flowers, about 14–18 inches tall and 12–14 inches wide; the mixture includes Blue Pearl, Coral, and White selections ([PanAmerican Seed](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/034701686050808/impatiens-beacon-pearl-island-mixture/)). ## Growing Plant in shade or partial sun. Common garden impatiens grow best in partial to full shade and moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter; extra water may be needed during hot, dry weather ([NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/impatiens-walleriana/)). Check containers frequently and water when the soil surface dries. PanAmerican lists packs, pots, hanging baskets, and in-ground beds as suitable uses, while Iowa State recommends watering garden impatiens during dry weather ([Iowa State University Extension](https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/how-to/growing-impatiens-home-garden)). Beacon reports high resistance to common impatiens downy mildew, while noting that plants are not immune. Leave room for airflow and avoid splashing water onto foliage; remove symptomatic plants to limit spread ([University of Wisconsin Extension](https://hort.extension.wisc.edu/articles/impatiens-downy-mildew/)). ## Maintenance Keep the root zone evenly moist without waterlogging and check pots more often in warm, windy weather. Impatiens walleriana is commonly grown as an annual outside tropical climates.
