PanAmerican Seed’s [2023 Product Information Guide](https://www.panamseed.com/pdf/ProductInfoGuide_PAS_2023_English_22356800.pdf) introduced Beacon® F1 Portland Mixture as a three-color mix of Rose, Violet Shades, and White. The guide places it within the Beacon® F1 series of Impatiens walleriana and lists mature plants at 14–18 inches tall and 12–14 inches wide.
## Flowers and placement
The 2023 guide says the three Portland colors were trialed to grow well together and look vibrant in shade. It lists the mix for packs, pots, hanging baskets, and in-ground beds, and describes season-long color for gardens and landscapes. The guide’s protection information lists US 10,285,362 and US 11,166,424 for Portland Mixture. Beacon has high resistance to widely prevalent impatiens downy mildew populations, but the guide notes that it is not immune.
## Growing conditions
Garden impatiens perform best in moist, well-drained soil and partial shade. [Iowa State University Extension](https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/how-to/growing-impatiens-home-garden) describes Impatiens walleriana as suitable for beds and containers, with glossy medium-green leaves; filtered light or morning sun with afternoon shade is a good site.
## Maintenance
Check pots and hanging baskets frequently, and water when the soil surface is dry. [Wisconsin Horticulture Extension](https://hort.extension.wisc.edu/articles/impatiens-downy-mildew/) recommends spacing plants for airflow and avoiding overhead watering to reduce disease spread. If downy mildew appears, remove affected plants, bag them, and dispose of them rather than composting.
