Create design onlineAbout Imara® XDR Red Star Impatiens
This annual Imara® XDR Red Star impatiens suits shaded beds, containers, and hanging baskets. Syngenta identifies Red Star as product 70085103 and lists mounding growth, 10–12-inch mature height and spread, late-spring and summer flowering, and high resistance to impatiens downy mildew, but not immunity ([exact Red Star product page](https://www.syngentaflowers.com/ams/product/flower/70085103)).
## Site and soil
Choose partial or full shade and moist, well-drained soil. Iowa State notes that common impatiens perform best in partial shade, with filtered light or morning sun and afternoon shade; heavy shade can reduce flowering ([Iowa State garden guidance](https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/how-to/growing-impatiens-home-garden)).
## Watering
In landscape beds, water about weekly during dry weather. Check container and hanging-basket soil frequently, watering when the surface is dry.
## Maintenance
Imara XDR impatiens have high resistance to downy mildew, not immunity. If symptoms appear, remove affected plants with roots, seal them in bags, and discard them rather than composting ([Wisconsin Extension sanitation guidance](https://hort.extension.wisc.edu/articles/impatiens-downy-mildew/)).
