Silhouette® Red Star Impatiens

Silhouette® Red Star is a mounding impatiens in the Silhouette series, grown for red double blooms. The [Syngenta catalog profile](https://online.flippingbook.com/view/636494595/36) identifies product 70003780, lists full shade and a 10–12 inch mature height and spread, and describes continuous flowering from spring to frost. ## Placement Use it in shaded beds or containers where a compact rounded plant can add color. The catalog lists both shade containers and in-ground plantings as uses and describes the series as mounding. ## Growing [NC State Extension's Impatiens walleriana profile](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/impatiens-walleriana/) describes the species as a herbaceous perennial in tropical climates but commonly grown as an annual elsewhere. It grows best in partial to full shade and moist, well-drained soil supplemented with organic matter. Too much sun can scorch foliage, while hot, dry spells call for extra water. NC State lists species hardiness zones 10–11. ## Maintenance Keep the soil moist but well drained, increasing water during hot, dry weather. In colder climates, grow it as an annual because the species is tropical and does not tolerate cold.
