About Super Elfin® Bright Orange Impatiens

Super Elfin® Bright Orange is the orange-flowered selection listed in PanAmerican Seed’s Super Elfin® Standard Series. The 2016 catalog gives the series an 8–10-inch height and a 12–14-inch spread, a compact scale for shaded beds and containers. ## Growing Conditions NC State Extension describes Impatiens walleriana as a bedding and shade plant that blooms from late spring until the first frost of fall. It grows in part shade and moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter; slightly acidic soil is preferred. Plants in sunnier exposures need extra water, while saturated soil can cause rot. NC State lists the species in USDA zones 10a through 11b and notes that it is commonly grown as an annual outside tropical areas. [PanAmerican Seed’s 2016 catalog](https://www.panamseed.com/documents/catalogs/14520_PASKieft_2016Catalog-LowRes.pdf) and [NC State Extension’s Impatiens walleriana profile](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/impatiens-walleriana/) provide the selection and species guidance. ## Landscape Use Use it in containers, planters, hanging baskets, shady borders, or mass plantings, following the broader species guidance. The published compact size suits shaded beds and container combinations; choose spacing for the site and leave room for airflow and access. ## Maintenance Keep the root zone moist but never saturated, adding water during hot dry spells. In cooler climates, grow it as a warm-season annual and protect it from cold; the extension notes that Impatiens walleriana is perennial in tropical zones but commonly treated as an annual elsewhere.
