Super Elfin® Clear Mix Impatiens

Super Elfin® Clear Mix is a named Impatiens walleriana selection in PanAmerican Seed’s Super Elfin series. PanAmerican’s 2010 series profile describes a height of 8 to 10 inches and a spread of 12 to 14 inches, and it distinguishes XP and standard offerings (see [series profile](https://www.panamseed.com/controls/MarketingPDF.aspx?blobid=541)). ## Growing conditions NC State Extension describes I. walleriana as a fast-growing, dense, mounding bedding plant with flowers from late spring through summer and early fall. The species is tropical and perennial in suitable climates, but it is commonly grown as an annual in temperate gardens. Grow in part shade to full shade in moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter; slightly acidic soil is preferred. Plants may grow in some sun with adequate water, while too much direct sun can scorch foliage. Use them in containers and hanging baskets, shady borders, beneath trees, or woodland plantings. NC State gives USDA zones 10–11 for the species; garden performance varies with local conditions. ## Maintenance Keep the soil moist through hot, dry spells while avoiding waterlogged roots. If plants become leggy in late summer, trim the top third to encourage new growth and improve appearance. In colder climates, grow as a warm-season annual and remove plants before frost.
