About Super Elfin® XP Lilac Impatiens

Super Elfin® XP Lilac is an Impatiens walleriana color selection in PanAmerican Seed’s Super Elfin XP series. PanAmerican lists Lilac XP as PAS746358 and gives the series an 8–10 inch height and a 12–14 inch spread ([series catalog](https://www.panamseed.com/controls/MarketingPDF.aspx?blobid=749)). ## Placement and bloom Use this compact, mounding bedding impatiens where a named Lilac color is wanted in shaded containers, hanging baskets, borders, or mass plantings. NC State Extension describes I. walleriana flowering from late spring through summer into early fall; this broader species profile complements the breeder’s size information for the XP series ([NC State species profile](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/impatiens-walleriana/)). ## Growing conditions Site in part to full shade. Plants can grow in brighter locations with adequate water, but too much sun may scorch the foliage. Plant in moist, well-drained soil supplemented with organic material and slightly acidic in reaction. Keep the root zone evenly moist during hot, dry spells, while avoiding waterlogging. NC State Extension lists the species as hardy in USDA zones 10–11 and describes it as a tropical perennial there, commonly grown as an annual in colder gardens. ## Maintenance Water as the soil begins to dry, without leaving it saturated. In late summer, trim up to one third of leggy growth to refresh the plant and encourage new blooms. In cold-winter areas, grow it as an annual or bring a container indoors before frost.
