Super Elfin® XP Violet impatiens is a compact bedding plant with violet, rounded flowers held at the stem tips. The exact selection is described for shade gardens and flowers from mid-spring through late summer. [University of Minnesota Arboretum plant sale guide](https://arb.umn.edu/sites/arb.umn.edu/files/2023-03/PlantSale%202023.pdf)
## Growth and use
Allow about 10–14 inches of height and 12–14 inches of spread. The violet flowers and green, pointed leaves make a close planting useful along shaded paths, beneath trees, or at the front of a seasonal bed. PanAmerican Seed lists the Super Elfin® XP series as a uniform, compact impatiens bred for shade, with 8–10-inch series height and 12–14-inch spread; the [series sheet](https://www.panamseed.com/controls/MarketingPDF.aspx?blobid=361) provides the broader growing context.
## Site and care
Choose a shaded or partly shaded site. For garden impatiens generally, North Carolina Extension recommends moist, well-drained soil and notes that flowers typically continue from late spring into fall. Its [Impatiens walleriana guide](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/impatiens-walleriana/) also describes susceptibility to downy mildew, so avoid crowded, stagnant conditions.
## Maintenance
Grow as a warm-season annual where winters are cold, and water as needed to keep the root zone evenly moist. Remove damaged plants promptly if disease appears; do not rely on fungicides to control impatiens downy mildew.
