About Invincibelle Garnetta Smooth hydrangea

Invincibelle Garnetta is a compact smooth hydrangea with rounded clusters of silvery-pink and ruby-red flowers on sturdy stems. It reblooms through summer and fall, forming a mound about 30 inches tall and wide. ## Landscape use Its compact size fits borders, edging, containers, and small-group plantings; the flower heads can also be cut or dried. [Proven Winners](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/hydrangea/invincibelle-garnetta-smooth-hydrangea-hydrangea-arborescens) lists USDA hardiness zones 3a–8a and notes that this selection flowers later than many other Invincibelle hydrangeas. ## Growing conditions Give it part sun to sun. Proven Winners rates its water needs as average; smooth hydrangeas grow well in moist, well-drained soil with organic matter. [NC State Extension’s guidance for the Invincibelle group](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/hydrangea-arborescens-invincibelle-group/) describes full sun to partial shade and soil that stays moist but drains well. ## Selection record The [breeder’s product page](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/hydrangea/invincibelle-garnetta-smooth-hydrangea-hydrangea-arborescens) identifies this cultivar as NCHA6, USPP 33,142, with Canadian plant grant PBRAF. The [U.S. patent record](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP33142P2/en) lists publication and grant on June 8, 2021. ## Maintenance Prune in early spring when new growth begins. Remove dead wood and cut the plant back by about one-third of its height, leaving its woody framework in place. Deadheading is not required for continued bloom.
