Create design onlineAbout Invincibelle® Spirit Smooth Hydrangea
Invincibelle® Spirit is a pink-flowered smooth hydrangea in the Invincibelle series, identified as the selection ‘NCHA1’. It forms a rounded deciduous shrub about 3–4 feet tall and wide, with summer flower clusters and hardiness across USDA Zones 3–8.
## Garden Use
Place it in a mixed border or perennial garden where the pink blooms can be viewed against green foliage. The grower recommends part sun to sun and lists average water needs. Smooth hydrangea occurs naturally along moist wooded slopes and streambanks; provide consistently moist, well-drained soil, especially in sunnier sites. Unlike some bigleaf hydrangeas, smooth hydrangea flower color is not changed by soil pH.
## Seasonal Interest
This cultivar blooms on new wood and can repeat from mid-summer until frost. Its selection name is ‘NCHA1’; the plant patent is USPP20765, issued in 2010.
## Maintenance
Cut the plant back by about one-third in spring as new shoots begin, following the grower’s recommendation; remove weak or damaged stems during the same cleanup. A mulch layer helps reduce moisture loss.
