About Invincibelle Sublime Smooth hydrangea

Invincibelle Sublime® is the exact ‘SMNHRL’ selection of smooth hydrangea, grown for oversized green mophead flowers and very dark foliage. Red-pink centers add contrast as the sepals open vivid green and mature toward whitish green; Proven Winners lists a mature height and spread of three and a half to five feet and summer-to-fall flowering. [The breeder’s cultivar profile](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/hydrangea/invincibelle-sublime-smooth-hydrangea-hydrangea-arborescens) and [the plant-patent description](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP34418P2/en) document the selection’s colors and form. ## Garden use Strong, upright stems hold the large, rounded flower heads above the shrub. Use it in borders, mass plantings, or containers; the breeder also lists it for edging and as a cut flower, fresh or dried. In a container it can serve as a thriller, with its height bringing structure above shorter companions. ## Placement Choose part sun to sun. The breeder recommends at least six hours of light for sturdy stems and abundant flowers, with afternoon shade helpful in hot climates. Average moisture is suitable, and a bark-mulch layer helps conserve water around shallow roots. ## Maintenance In early spring, as new growth begins, remove dead wood and cut the plant back by about one-third. This encourages fresh flowering stems while retaining a strong woody base; renew mulch to help the soil hold moisture.
