Create design onlineAbout Pink Frost Sweet Potato Vine
Pink Frost is an ornamental sweet potato vine cultivar with broadly lobed foliage and creamy white and pink variegation. NC State lists Pink Frost among Ipomoea batatas cultivars; a patent background separately identifies the unpatented ‘Tricolor’ as also known as ‘Pink Frost’ and describes pale-green, white, and pink-margined leaves. ## Foliage and growth
NC State describes Ipomoea batatas as a vigorous annual ground cover or vine in the morning-glory family (Convolvulaceae), native to Mexico, Central America, and northern South America. The cultivar entry specifies broad lobes and variegation; it does not give a Pink Frost-specific mature height or spread.
## Growing conditions
Place in full sun or partial shade in loamy, well-drained soil high in organic matter. NC State notes that ornamental sweetpotato cultivars are often used in mixed containers, pollinator gardens, water gardens, and rock gardens; these are species-level uses rather than Pink Frost trial recommendations. It also cautions that foliage cultivars rarely produce good edible roots, so grow this selection for its leaves rather than relying on it as a food crop.
## Maintenance
Ipomoea batatas is frost-sensitive and generally treated as an annual. Plant outdoors after frost danger has passed; root cuttings are one propagation option, and tuber cuttings can be planted after the last frost.
