About Bearded Iris 'Autumn Tryst'

Bearded iris ‘Autumn Tryst’ is a tall bearded selection of *Iris germanica*, introduced by John Weiler in 1993. The [American Iris Society Iris Encyclopedia](https://wiki.irises.org/TbAthruE/TbAutumnTryst) lists it at 34 inches, with white standards and falls edged in rosy lavender, pale-yellow beards and a slight sweet fragrance; it records early-midseason bloom and reports rebloom in some climates. ## Garden setting Plant it in full sun and rich, well-drained soil; it tolerates some shade, while heavy clay can hinder growth. The tall bearded iris page recommends setting rhizomes at soil level or covering them lightly, without mulch. Use this selection in a sunny perennial border or cutting garden. ## Water and seasonal care This iris prefers drier conditions, and overwatering or mulch can contribute to root rot. The [NC State Extension bearded iris guide](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/iris-x-germanica/) recommends early-spring fertilizing and dividing clumps in mid- to late summer after flowering. Rebloom may occur in suitable climates, though reports vary by location. ## Maintenance Remove faded flowers and promptly clear affected roots and foliage. Watch for iris borer and fungal problems, and divide crowded clumps after bloom.
