Bubble Bubble is a tall bearded iris with a dramatic, dark-and-white flower pattern. It reaches about 36 inches (91 cm) and blooms in the midseason-to-late portion of the iris season, with timing varying by climate.
## Flower Form
Standards are blackish cherry-magenta; the white-based falls are washed and lined overall in magenta-black, with a broad dark magenta-cherry band and purple beards. The American Iris Society lists the cultivar as Tall Bearded and measures it at 36 inches (91 cm). This strong contrast reads well in a sunny mixed border or in repeated groups, where the tall flower stalks rise above lower edging plants. See the [American Iris Society cultivar record](https://wiki.irises.org/TbAthruE/TbBubbleBubble) for the named selection's description.
## Site and Soil
Plant bearded iris in full sun, in well-drained soil with open air circulation. Give rhizomes room at soil level or just below rather than covering them deeply; a raised bed or slope can help where drainage is poor. The [American Iris Society care guide](https://www.irises.org/gardeners/care-classification/care/) describes the light and drainage needs of bearded irises; [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/iris-x-germanica/) provides general species-group context.
## Maintenance
Water new rhizomes thoroughly while their roots establish. After establishment, the group generally needs little supplemental water except in arid regions; use deep watering at longer intervals and avoid oversaturation. Divide crowded clumps every three to five years, generally after flowering. See [Schreiner's bearded iris watering guidance](https://www.schreinersgardens.com/pages/watering-your-bearded-iris).
