About Bearded Iris 'Champagne Elegance'

‘Champagne Elegance’ is a tall bearded iris with near-white to pale lavender-pink standards, buffy apricot-peach falls, and an amber beard. It blooms at midseason at about 33–34 inches; [Schreiner’s cultivar profile](https://www.schreinersgardens.com/products/champagne-elegance) reports sweet orange-blossom fragrance and late-summer rebloom. ## Garden use Place this pastel, upright clump where its flowers can be seen at close range, such as a sunny mixed border or a cutting garden. Its soft pink and apricot tones complement stronger purple, blue, or burgundy spring flowers. ## Site, soil, and water Bearded irises bloom best with at least a half day of sun, and about six hours of direct light is preferred; in very hot climates, some shade may help. Provide freely draining soil, using a slope or raised bed where ground stays heavy. Set rhizomes shallowly with their tops exposed, then water to settle the soil and help new roots establish. Mature bearded irises usually need supplemental water only in arid areas. See [Schreiner’s planting guidance](https://www.schreinersgardens.com/how-do-i-plant-bearded-iris). ## Maintenance After the last buds finish, cut flower stalks near the base and keep healthy leaves through summer. Remove diseased or brown foliage, then trim leaves in fall. Divide clumps before they become crowded, commonly every three to five years; local timing varies, with July through September often used for lifting and replanting. In especially cold regions, protect exposed rhizomes with an airy winter covering and remove it in spring.
