About Bearded Iris 'Disco Music'

‘Disco Music’ is a tall bearded iris bred by Bryce Williamson and introduced in 1977. The [American Iris Society cultivar record](https://wiki.irises.org/TbAthruE/TbDiscoMusic) lists midseason bloom at 36 inches (91 cm), with valencia-orange standards and falls blended with pinkish, amber, and apricot-pink tones, orange midribs, and a tangerine-red beard. ## Flowers The AIS record lists ‘Hayride’ and ‘Avanti’ as the parent cross and notes an Honorable Mention in 1979. Its 2022 cumulative rebloom checklist reports locations where rebloom was observed; those reports are not a guarantee of repeat bloom in a particular garden or a cultivar hardiness rating. ## Site and soil The [RHS border-iris guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/iris/border/growing-guide) identifies Iris germanica as a bearded border iris and recommends a sunny position with well-drained soil. Its rhizome-planting advice says to leave the upper part partly exposed. These are general border-iris recommendations, not a separate trial of this named cultivar. ## Maintenance The RHS guide advises watering newly planted rhizomes well during the planting year; routine watering is generally unnecessary afterward except during severe drought. Follow the guide’s planting and care advice in light of local soil and climate.
