About Bearded Iris 'Flip'

‘Flip’ is a tall-bearded iris with mauve standards edged in lilac and red-rose falls marked by a white medial stripe and a fine lilac outline. The American Iris Society records it at 40 inches (about 1.02 m), blooming from midseason-late to late; its exact selection details are on the [AIS cultivar page](https://wiki.irises.org/TbFthruJ/TbFlip). ## Placement Choose a sunny site with rich, well-drained soil. Bearded irises tolerate some shade but may struggle in heavy clay; set the rhizome at soil level or lightly covered and leave it unmulched. Its 40-inch stems suit a perennial border and a cutting garden. See [North Carolina State Extension’s bearded-iris guide](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/iris-x-germanica/) for species-level planting guidance. ## Maintenance Keep newly planted rhizomes moist while roots establish. Once established, use deep, infrequent watering only when conditions are dry; frequent shallow watering and overwatering can be harmful. Divide the clump in mid- to late summer, after flowering, as described by [North Carolina State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/iris-x-germanica/) and the [American Iris Society care guide](https://www.irises.org/gardeners/care-classification/care/).
