‘Going in Circles’ is a standard-dwarf bearded iris with lilac standards veined grey-blue and garnet falls banded in light lilac. The American Iris Society records it at 13 inches (33 cm), with early-to-midseason bloom, marigold-to-yellow and white beard markings, and a slight musky fragrance; see the [AIS cultivar entry](https://wiki.irises.org/Sdb/SdbGoingInCircles).
## Placement
Bearded iris grows best in full sun and rich, well-drained soil, though it tolerates some shade. Set the rhizome at soil level or cover it lightly, and leave it unmulched; heavy clay and excess moisture can cause trouble. The species-level guide from [North Carolina State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/iris-x-germanica/) describes uses in perennial borders and cutting gardens.
## Maintenance
Keep newly set rhizomes moist until their roots establish. After establishment, water deeply at longer intervals when conditions are dry and avoid overwatering. Divide clumps in mid- to late summer after flowering. See the [American Iris Society care guide](https://www.irises.org/gardeners/care-classification/care/) and [Schreiner’s bearded-iris watering guidance](https://www.schreinersgardens.com/pages/watering-your-bearded-iris).
