About Bearded Iris 'Harvest of Memories'

‘Harvest of Memories’ is a tall-bearded iris introduced by Lloyd Zurbrigg in 1985. Its Dresden-yellow flowers and yellow beards rise about 38 inches (97 cm), and the cultivar has a slight sweet fragrance. ## In the garden Place this German iris in a sunny perennial border or cutting garden. Full sun and rich, well-drained soil suit bearded irises; they tolerate some shade but may flower less freely. Their upright flower stems add a strong vertical accent in the border. Once established, the rhizomes tolerate dry conditions, but heavy, wet soil can lead to rot. ## Flowering The American Iris Society lists ‘Harvest of Memories’ as a midseason bloomer and records rebloom in some climates, including October in Virginia. That is a location-specific report, not a guarantee of fall flowers or evidence of a hardiness range. The yellow self-color and slight fragrance are selection-specific traits recorded in the [American Iris Society cultivar profile](https://wiki.irises.org/TbFthruJ/TbHarvestOfMemories). The [NC State Extension bearded iris guide](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/iris-x-germanica/) describes this group’s full-sun, well-drained culture and its use in perennial borders and cutting gardens. ## Maintenance Keep the rhizomes at soil level or only lightly covered and leave them unmulched. Remove faded flower stalks. Divide crowded clumps in mid- to late summer after flowering; clear old foliage at season’s end and promptly remove roots or leaves affected by iris borer.
