About Bearded Iris 'Lord of Rings'

‘Lord of Rings’ is a tall bearded (TB) iris with ruffled flowers blending burgundy, gold, and brown; the old-gold falls have brown veining and a brown marginal ring, and the gold beards are bronze-tipped. The [American Iris Society profile](https://wiki.irises.org/TbKthruO/TbLordOfRings) lists a 36-inch height, late-midseason bloom with rebloom, and a slight sweet fragrance. At 36 inches tall, place it mid-border or among taller companions where its multicolored flowers can be seen. In most climates, give it at least six hours of full sun and well-drained soil; light shade may help in very hot areas. Plant rhizomes with their tops exposed and water to settle the soil, following Schreiner’s [planting guide](https://www.schreinersgardens.com/pages/how-do-i-plant-bearded-iris). ## Growing notes Newly planted rhizomes need moisture while roots establish. Once established, bearded irises generally need extra water only in arid areas, according to Schreiner’s [care guide](https://www.schreinersgardens.com/pages/how-to-grow-care-for-bearded-iris). ## Maintenance Divide clumps before overcrowding, generally every three to five years. Schreiner’s [division guide](https://www.schreinersgardens.com/pages/how-do-i-divide-and-transplant-bearded-iris) gives July–September as a usual window, depending on location.
